I was looking forward to Mothers Day. With no plans till noon I was going to get to sleep in, a serious treat in my house. I got up at the usual time, fed the dogs, and then crawled back in my bed. Oh, it was soooo nice. That lasted for about a half hour. All of a sudden my snooze was interrupted by something (more like someone) stepping on my head. I pulled the pillow over me and thought "if I ignore them they will go away". Yeah, right. 16 very large and heavy paws did a tap dance across my back. The "kids" were having themselves a party, and doing it on my little double bed. A foot soon ended up in the wrong place sending me shooting straight up with an order to "knock it off". Being seriously nearsighted (and of course minus my glasses) what I saw was this mass of fur with 4 plumy tails madly waving overhead. Even not being able to see them clearly, their thought was obvious. "Oh goody, she's up!!" And they all charged the head of my bed. Holly being Holly, she got there first and shoved her head in my face. Thanks to my eyesight it wasn't until then that I noticed something strange about her head. The forced close inspection quickly showed it to be a squirrel, with a huge malamute grin behind it. Ahhhh, so that's why they wanted me up. The little darlings brought me breakfast in bed. How sweet of them. (Yuck!) How thoughtful (icky, icky icky)! Yeah, happy mothers day, I get it. (BLECK!) I don't think I've ever exited the bed so quickly in my life. Of course by the time I collected their little "present" and disposed of it properly, I was wide awake. Thoughts of a nice leisurely morning went out the door. Instead I took the foursome for an early morning walk and it was beautiful out. They were right, it was much too nice of a morning to waste snoozing away in bed. Hope everyone else had a happy mothers day! |
