Comments - Has the best type in the class.  Note the broad skull and
shoulders and cobbiness/roundness of his body.  His head is also well set into the body as required by the standard.

Black Banded
Short hair

Color/Markings - 23
Type - 19
Fur -9
Size - 8
Condition - 9
Eyes/ears - 4
Total -- 72
Place - 1

Comments - The photos and the black color made this hamster difficult to assess.  An in-person assessment might yield a noticeably different result.  The head appears to be pointed even though it is shorter than many and lacks the blunt nose.  The body overall lacks the cobbiness/roundness required by the standard, but it appears this may be a young hamster who still has some maturing to do.  Color is nice, and the width of the band is nice although there is a deduction for the "bridge" across the band.  The standard requires an unbroken band.  The band lines are not entirely parallel with the white completely engulfing at least one front leg.

Short Hair

Color/Markings - 21
Type - 19
Fur -9-
Size -
Condition - 9-
Eyes/ears - 4
Total - 71-
Place - 2

Comments - Color is good although there appears to be some browning.  The band is too narrow (should be about one-third of the body length) and not unbroken.  The photos are not as good at showing type on this animal, but it appears his shoulders and head are on the narrow side.  He needs a broader skull and more cobbiness/roundness to his body to score higher on type.

Dark Gray
Long Hair

Color/Markings - 25
Type -20+
Fur - 8-
Size - 9
Condition - 9
Eyes/ears - 4
Total -- 75
Place - 1

Comments - Nice animal.  Appears to have a broad body with nice head
although he could still have a broader skull and blunter nose.  Wins his class
over 141 because his head appears a bit more sturdy.

Longhair

Type - 20
Fur - 8-
Size - 9
Condition - 9
Eyes/ears - 4
Total - 75-

Comments - Note:  The BHA and NHC standards have noticeable differences on Silver Gray - more so than on any other gene.  I have judged this hamster to the NHC standard.  His head looks a bit more delicate (less bulky) than the others although it may just be the photo.  Nice animal overall.

Comments - This male has the best coat length in the standardized males, and his score may be a bit high in this area.  His head appears a bit delicate lacking a bit of the broadness in skull shortness in his face and has a bit of a pinched nose.  It's very difficult to tell exactly how broad and cobby his body is given the coat, so his type score relies more on the head than it would in an in-person show where the judge could pick him up and feel him.

Cinnamon Banded
Long Hair

Color/Markings - 21
Type - 19
Fur - 7
Size - 9
Condition - 8+
Eyes/ears - 4
Total - 68+
Place - 2

Comments -The color quality of the cinnamon is very hard to assess given
these photos.  I can't see the cheekflashes or crescents, and the lighting
doesn't make the cinnamon particularly easy to see either.  The band is
narrow toward the dorsal line and too wide along the sides making the margins not particularly close to parallel.  Coat length is a weakness although the hamster seems to have a relatively broad body.  The head is a bit longer than  it should be but not too bad.  The coat does not look as dense as most of the others entered, but actually feeling it would make the assessment easier.  This hamster also appears to be an odd-eye with one eye darker than the other.  I am ignoring that in the judging but will ask how that is typically dealt with.  I personally have never judged an odd eyed hamster.

# 170
Golden Dominant Spot
Longhair

Color/Markings - 23
Type - 21-
Fur - 8
Size - 8+
Condition - 9
Eyes/ears - 4
Total - 73
Place - 1

Comments - His pattern lacks sufficient white for the dominant spot standard with a bit of unevenness in the pattern.  His type is strong, but his size (length) is a bit weak.  This is a nice breeding animal particularly because it's his pattern that has cost him the most, and the quality of the pattern will not transfer to offspring.  They can range from better marked than he is
to worse marked.

Golden
Longhaired Rex

Color/Markings -23
Type - 19
Fur - 7+
Size - 9
Condition - 9
Eyes/ears - 4
Total - 71+
Place - 2

Comments - Color and markings are a bit pale. It's hard to assess his type without feeling him, and his body may have more breadth than others entered. Head and nose are a bit long and pointed, and ideally the head would be larger in proportion to the body.

# 121
Silver Gray
Long Hair Rex

Color/Markings - 23+
Type - 19
Fur - 9-
Size - 9-
Condition - 9
Eyes/ears - 4
Total - 73-
Place - 1

Comments -Head is a pointed, and the skull could be broader with a blunter
nose.  Type and condition are difficult to assess given the rex coat, but he
appears to have some broadness to his body given where the length starts on his sides.  Coat length is among the best of the long haired males entered.  Color is diluted, but both the rex gene and the long haired gene dilute coat color.  Still the cheekflashes are hard to see.  The rex gene has had a stronger affect on his coat than on the other two entered in this class.  Nice animal overall.
